GAMBIER – Jacobine O. Engle, 99, of Gambier, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at her residence. She was born on Jan. 23, 1924, in Universal, Pennsylvania to the late Albert F. and Olive (Berg) Smith.
Jacobine graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1942. She retired from Knox County Service Center as a case worker, her specialty was infant stimulation. Jacobine was a member of the Grove Church of Christ in Gambier since 1949. She loved her church family dearly and enjoyed being the church secretary, Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent. She was also a member of the Harrison Grange and Knox Chapter #236 Order of Eastern Star. Jacobine enjoyed reading, gardening, but most of all, she loved being around her family.
She is survived by her children, David Engle, Diane (Jim) Davis; grandchildren, Jason (Holly) Davis, Michael (Patricia) Davis, Erik Davis and Emily Engle; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Annabelle Davis and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Jacobine is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charles C. Engle; brothers, Albert F. Smith Jr., R. Wilson Smith and Philip H. Smith.
The family thanks Helen Edwards, friend and health aide, for her years of care and assistance that allowed Jacobine to live independently. Special thanks to Beth Hardin and the Independency team for their compassionate care over the past two years.
Calling hours will be observed on Friday, March 10, from 5-7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home; 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, with a funeral service on Saturday, March 11, at 11 a.m. at the Grove Church of Christ, 7740 Grove Church Rd., Gambier, OH 43022, with Pastor David Dahlstein officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grove Church of Christ.
