FREDERICKTOWN – The annual Knox County Lamb Banquet will be held Saturday, March 4.
Featured speaker for the event will be Henry Zerby Ph.D. Zerby has a diversified background in the meat industry, including being head of meat science at Ohio State University, working for Wendys International and currently is vice president of procurement for North America for the Sodexo Corporation headquartered in France. The Zerbys reside near Marengo, where they raise sheep and cattle.
The Knox County Sheep Association Inc. (KCSAI) serves Knox County sheep producers by sponsoring educational and promotional activities that showcase the sheep industry in the county. Over the years, Knox County has consistently been one of the largest counties in sheep numbers east of the Mississippi River.
The KCSAI has participated in the Farm First Friday, Ag Awareness Day and Heart of Ohio Tour. Youth are supported at the Knox County Fair by sponsoring the Pen of Three Commercial Lambs, Born Bred and Raised Class, the buyers luncheon, PeeWee Showmanship and the lamb cook-off. This will be the seventh year the KCSAI will present a $500 scholarship to a senior in high school who exhibits a lamb at the fair or resides on a commercial sheep farm. An auction will be held at the banquet to benefit the scholarship fund.
