Fredericktown 42, Centerburg 35

Fredericktown (7-13, 3-9) had a big week that ended with a 42-35 win over KMAC rival Centerburg (8-12, 3-9) on Feb. 4, for their third straight victory.

Fredericktown coach Tim Maceyko reflected on what was a week full of milestones for the Freddies.

“A few milestones this week – beyond the three wins in a row,” Maceyko said. “On Monday at Lucas, Jill Bouton passed the 100 blocks mark. She had 105 prior to today's game. At Northmor on Wednesday, sophomore Cally Carpenter achieved 500-plus points. And today’s win versus Centerburg was my 50th career head coaching victory.”

Fredericktown led 7-6 after one quarter, with KMAC-leading scorer Cally Carpenter putting up four points and Ella Bouton scoring three.

In the second quarter, the Freddies had an 11-10 advantage to make it an 18-16 game at the half. Mya Bryant led the offense in the quarter for Fredericktown with four points and Ella Bouton drained a three. Kennedi Glenn and Avery Glenn each hit threes for Centerburg.

Fredericktown started to take control of the game in the third quarter with a 15-9 advantage, led by eight points from Carpenter. Kayla Larimore had four points for the Trojans.

Centerburg finished the game strong with a 10-9 fourth-quarter advantage, but the Freddies were able to hold on for the victory. Kennedi Glenn had five points, including a three in the quarter. Fredericktown got threes from Ella Bouton and Kit Bellman.

The Freddies were led by Carpenter’s 14 points. Ella Bouton also hit double figures with 10 points. 

Centerburg was led by Kennedi Glenn, who had eight points, including a pair of threes. Avery Glenn added six points on two threes.

Danville 54, East Knox 50

Danville (9-10, 6-6) and East Knox (8-11, 6-6) fought through a seesaw battle, with the Blue Devils coming away with a 54-50 win over the Bulldogs on Feb. 4 with a big fourth quarter by Ella Proper.

Both teams scored 11 points in the first quarter, with Broegan Staats' four points leading the way for the Blue Devils. Addison Mickley and Kylee Hess each drained a three. East Knox was led by eight points from Sydney Opfer.

The second quarter saw a 14-point effort for both teams, making it a 25-25 tie at the half. East Knox got a five-point effort out of Molly Totten in the quarter and Danville was led by Jaylyn Smith, who hit two threes.

The tied game continued with both teams scoring 14 points in the third. Jaylyn Workman led Danville with four points and East Knox was led by Totten and Jaylyn Smith, who had four points apiece.

It came down to the final quarter and Danville was able to take a 15-11 advantage, highlighted by eight points by Proper. She made all six of her free throws down the stretch to help secure the win. East Knox got five points from Natalie Smith.

Leading the scoring for Danville was Proper with 13 points, including 9-for-12 free-throw shooting. She also had six rebounds, an assist and a block. Jaylyn Smith added 11 points, five boards and an assist.

East Knox had four players in double figures, including 13 for Natalie Smith, 11 for Opfer, 11 for Totten and 10 for Ella Divan.

River Valley 54, Highland 34

Highland (2-16, 1-11) got a career game out of Abby Jordan on her birthday against league-leading River Valley (14-6, 10-3), but an 18-point halftime deficit proved to be too big to come back from in a 54-34 loss on Feb. 3.

After starting the game close and down 7-5, River Valley went on a scoring run to go up 14-5 in the first quarter. Highland showed some solid defense highlighted by steals by Guinevere Jackson, Aubree Bellamy, Kate Clement and Jordan. Shelby Conley and Kameron Stover also had blocks in the quarter.

River Valley had a 15-6 advantage in the second quarter to make it a 29-11 game at the half. In the third quarter, Bellamy recorded another steal. Stover added another block.

Highland’s offense woke up in the fourth quarter with a 16-7 frame, highlighted by a three from Conley. Jackson had a blocked shot in the quarter.

Jordan posted a career high in points with 11.

Mount Gilead 45, Cardington-Lincoln 33

In a battle between the two top teams in KMAC, Mount Gilead (14-5, 9-3) secured the conference title with a 45-33 win over Cardington-Lincoln (10-8, 8-4), thanks to a solid scoring output by Madilyn Elson on Feb. 4.

The Indians went up 5-0 to start the game, highlighted by a three from Lydia Stalnaker. Down 8-4, Cardington-Lincoln's Abigail Hardwick made it a one-point game on a rainbow three. After one quarter, Mount Gilead had a 10-7 lead. Grace Shipman had a steal and Candace Millisor had a block in the quarter for Mount Gilead. Elson also showed great hustle in a chase-down block. For the Lady Pirates, Madison Caulkins, Magi Hallabrin, Samantha Spires and Hardwick recorded a steal each. Elson was the top scorer for the Indians with four points in the quarter, while Hardwick had five points for the Pirates.

Mount Gilead piled on 16 points in the second quarter and held Cardington-Lincoln to nine to make it a 26-16 lead at the half. Elson turned it up a notch with seven points, including a three. Spires hit a three to lead the charge for the Pirates.

In the third quarter, the Indians outscored Cardington-Lincoln 10-6 to make it a 36-22 game going into the fourth. Danielle Pohlkotte scored six points on a pair of threes for Mount Gilead.

Elson was the game high scorer with 16 points, including a pair of shots from downtown. 

The Pirates were led by Hardwick with eight points and Hallabrin with seven points.
