MOUNT VERNON – Richard (Dick) Crise, 97, died Jan. 13, 2023, at his home on Cudjoe Key, Florida. He was born July 22, 1925, to George W. and Beatrice Greer Crise in Mount Vernon.
Dick attended Mount Vernon schools but graduated from University High School on the campus of Ohio State University. He enlisted in the Army Air Forces in World War II and became a fighter pilot and second lieutenant. When the war ended, he was honorably discharged and attended OSU, graduating in 1948 with a degree in industrial engineering. He then went to work for Patented Products Corp. in Danville.
In 1967, he married Pauline (Polly) Smith, who had a 5-year-old daughter, Beth.
Dick liked sports cars and had an MG and Jaguar. His main hobby was sailing. He had boats at Charles Mills, Apple Valley and Sandusky, Ohio, then in Cudjoe Key after he retired in 1997.
Dick was predeceased by his parents and an older brother, George Jr.; a nephew, Robert Jr.; and neice, Eileen Crise. He is survived by his wife, Polly; her daughter, Beth, who is married to Steve Cook; and their two daughters, Malana and Mindy. Also surviving are his brother, Robert G. Crise Sr. and nephew Bruce, wife Lisa, and their son Owen.
