MOUNT VERNON – Mary Catherine Schlairet, 82, of Mount Vernon, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, at Knox Community Hospital.
She was born on Oct. 31, 1940, in Danville to the late Elmer “Pete” and Margaret (Cagnon) Blubaugh.
Mary was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church. Mary was a radiology and nuclear medicine technologist for nearly 50 years (retired from Knox Community Hospital in 2006), was a mentor to many and set an example of a strong work ethic for her family and friends. She enjoyed crocheting, car shows, dogs, praying for her kids and the Rosary, but most of all just spending time with her family.
She is survived by her four children, Cathy (Lee) Henthorn, Jim Schlairet, Kevin (Stacia) Schlairet and Eric Schlairet, all of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Kyle (Natosha) Henthorn, Katelyn Henthorn, Tyler, Tim, Carli, Avari, Lillian, Aubry and Mason Schlairet; a great-grandson, Maverick Henthorn; sisters, Teresa (Gary) Taylor and Rose Bell; along with a brother, Charles (Sharon) Blubaugh.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James Paul Schlairet Sr.; infant grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, Cassiday and Leaf; infant brother, John Thomas Blubaugh; and mother and father-in-law, Paul and Catherine Schlairet.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel with a Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Rev Father Mark J. Hammond as celebrant. A private burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
