MOUNT VERNON – Verna L. Vogt of Mount Vernon passed away on Nov. 15, 2022, at the age of 96 while in Hospice Care at Ohio Eastern Star Home. She was born in Zanesville to Arthur H. and Rhea (Combs, Wiggins) Weaver on Jan. 15, 1926.
Verna is survived by her daughter Rhonda (Charles) Gherman, grandchildren Sibley L. (Olson) Poland (Fiance Alex Kinsman), A.J. Smith (Fiance Ashley Matthews), Samantha (Trestin) Reffitt, Rob Gherman, great-grandchild Blake Smith along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her husband Robert D. Vogt, daughters Zandra L. Smith and Tonda Vogt of Mount Vernon, sisters Jean (Bill) Ellis of Mount Vernon and Geraldine (Bill) Mohler of Dayton, brothers Cleland (Marge) Weaver, Dayle (Alice) Weaver, Richard (Estelle) Weaver all of Zanesville and Russell (Marilyn) Weaver of Marion, North Carolina.
She always enjoyed taking care of others so it was an easy decision to follow in her mother's footsteps of being a nurse by studying in the Nursing Program at Andrews University in Michigan. Soon afterwards she met her future husband through her brother in law Bill Mohler and after a romantic courtship later married Robert in 1951. After their daughters went to school she started working at Printing Arts Press, Inc. then later founded Park Place Retirement Home with her sister Jean Ellis. In her early years she was a talented artist and acrylic painter of portraits and landscapes. In retirement she enjoyed baking pies, flower gardening, tending to her vegetable patch alongside her Sheltie Cathy but most of all spending time with her family and Grandchildren. Her faith was a guiding path throughout her life as a lifelong Seventh day Adventist and member of the Hill Church.
The family would like to thank the dedicated ER staff at KCH for saving her life in 2012 giving her many more years to spend with them. A Graveside Service was held in Mound View Cemetery on Monday, Nov. 21, 2022, officiated by Pastor Ron Vozar. To send the family a condolence online visit www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
