FREDERICKTOWN – Betty Lore Grant, 96, of Fredericktown passed away on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, at the Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon. She was born on March 1, 1926, near Fredericktown to the late Kenneth and Leota (Deakins) Shipley.
Betty was an active life member of the Fredericktown United Methodist Church. Over the years, she worked for the Alcove, the IGA store in Fredericktown and Therm-O-Disc. She was also a member of the American Legion Joe Cocanour Post 500 Ladies Auxiliary and the Chi-Signa-Lamia Mothers Club. Betty was a 4-H advisor for over 46 years. She worked for the Board of Elections from 1959-2016. Betty was awarded the Democrat of the Year award, and in 2016 she received the Fredericktown Sportsman Award. She loved going to the Fredericktown Senior Center and attending horse races, especially the Little Brown Jug. Betty always attended the sporting events of her children and grandchildren. She was an avid fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Betty is survived by her children, Stephen (Kathi) Lore of Fredericktown and Jona (Bob) Hammond of Mount Vernon; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; sisters, Vonda Turner and Terry (Delmis) Gaddis of Fredericktown; daughter-in-law, Wanda Lore of Byron, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Debbie Shipley of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold “Peachy” Lore; her second husband, Wilton Grant; son, Thomas Lore; daughter, Robyn McGuire and infant twin daughter, Jeanne Lore; a brother, James Shipley; and sisters, Annie Fearn, Phyllis Brown and Joyce Pence.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at noon on Friday, Nov. 25, at the Fredericktown United Methodist Church, 123 Columbus Road, Fredericktown, with Rev. Dr. Gary Campbell officiating. Betty will be laid to rest beside her husband, Peachy, in Forest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Legion Joe Cocanour Post 500 Ladies Auxiliary or the Fredericktown Senior Center.
