GAHANNA – Blaine E. Young, 79, of Gahanna, Ohio, died Nov. 8, 2022, at his residence.

He lived a life full of love, laughter and many wonderful adventures.

He was born June 24, 1943, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, to Meredith (Bud) Young and Laura Jenkins Young.

He married Paula Mickle Young on Nov. 12, 1976, in the Church of the Holy Spirit in Gambier, Ohio.

In addition to his loving and patient spouse, Blaine is survived by his special son, Scott Roberts; grandsons, Gavin, and Mason Roberts; and granddaughter, Elliott Detrow. Also surviving are two long-cherished friends, Marilou Criswell of Bridgeport, Ohio, and the Rev. Monsignor William H. Carr of Richmond, VA. He was predeceased by his loving parents and dear friend, Jack Craver.

Blaine was a 1965 graduate of Wheeling College (Wheeling Jesuit University). He earned a master’s in educational administration from Akron University.

Blaine had a 35-year career in education, holding several positions in the Knox County area. He was a past president of the Mount Vernon Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow.

Blaine and Paula spent nearly four decades in the same home. It was originally built in 1937 by Harley and Agnes Lemasters. As a couple, they redesigned this residence to fit their personal needs and tastes. In 2015, they moved to Gahanna, Ohio. A well-earned retirement permitted them to travel extensively throughout North America, Europe, North Africa and South America. Of all destinations, spending the month of May at Emerald Isle, N.C., was at the top of their list. The sound of the ocean, fresh seafood, time to read and relax was heavenly. When not traveling, he enjoyed spoiling the grandchildren.

He always tried to be positive; he enjoyed people, good food, good books and a hell-uv-a good laugh. Life is not always fair, but life is good, if you make it so.

Blaine’s only regret in leaving “this sweet ole world” is that his beloved Paula and Old #7 will not greet him as he begins whatever adventure awaits.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, Dec. 2, at 12 noon at Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon.  Friends may call on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that individuals wanting to honor Blaine should do something kind for someone in need.
