To the Editor:
I cannot understand why current Republican positions on matters that impact the well-being of us Americans, especially elderly Americans, are not front page news.
Why the heck do so many Republicans vote for people whose policies will destroy these voters’ well-being? Medicare and Social Security are front and center in the sights of Republicans’ firing squad: Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, recently repeated his frequent talking point about wanting to make all laws (yes including your Social Security and Medicare) “sunset” every five years, and only reauthorizing the ones lawmakers want to keep, rather than allowing them to remain basic entitlement rights for all older Americans without the usual sadly seasonal political rancor and posturing. Similarly, Senate Republicans James Lankford (OK), Mike Lee (UT), Cynthia Lummis (WY), and Marco Rubio (FL) have introduced Republican plan to remove our government’s ability to negotiate fair drug prices, which will make drug costs continue to skyrocket, including Medicare costs. Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) called for making funding of Social Security “discretionary.”
Listen, folks. This stuff is not made up. It is the Republicans' plan for you. You paid for your Social Security and Medicare benefits. The Republicans want to take it away. Wake up! It should be front page news. Please do not vote for Republicans. They want to destroy your basic entitlements.
