Baker, Hoam lead Mount Gilead boys, Fredericktown girls to KMAC cross country championships

Will Baker led a 1-2-3 finish for Mount Gilead to win the KMAC boys cross country championship Oct. 15, at Fredericktown, Kokosing Reservoir. Elsa Hoam took a 56-second victory to pace the Lady Freddies to a girls division title.

Mount Gilead won the boys’ crown with an average time of 16:28.02, for 19 points. Fredericktown was second, averaging 17:23.59, with 52 points. The field rounded out with Northmor in third with 74 points, Centerburg fourth with 103 points, East Knox fifth with 137, Cardington-Lincoln sixth with 152 and Danville N/A with one finisher.

Mount Gilead won in dominant fashion with a 1-2-3 finish and five finishers in the top seven. The first-place finisher was Baker in 15:58.06, ahead of teammates Reed Supplee (16:09.80) and Parker Bartlett (16:21.75). Owen Hershner finished in sixth and Aaron Gannon was seventh for the Indians.

Second-place Fredericktown’s top finisher was Owen Krabill, in fifth place at 16:50.46. Kaleb Randall was 10th, Brandon Hogg finished 11th, Aiden McManis was 12th and Peyton Hogg was 14th.

Third-place Northmor’s top runner was Ryan Lehman, who finished fourth in 16:30.92. David Blunk was eighth and Connor Radojcsics was 15th.  

For Centerburg, Ethan Jackson was the fastest Trojan, finishing in 13th place, followed by Chase Netting in 17th.  

East Knox saw Gaetano Capodicasa finish in 18th place, and Cardington-Lincoln’s top runner was Aidan Reitmire, who came in ninth in 17:11.90.  

Hoam runs away from field

In the girls’ run, Fredericktown captured the title with an average time of 20:39.06 and 51 points to nip Northmor’s second-place finish with 58 points and an average time of 21:12.44. Mount Gilead was third with 76 points, Cardington-Lincoln was fourth with 80 points and East Knox came in fifth with 97 points. Centerburg had four finishers for the sixth-place spot.    

Hoam dominated the field, winning the race with a time of 18:51.75, 56.12 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Kate Lehman of Northmor.

The Freddies also had the 12th through 17th finishers with Ellie Kershner, Micah Phillips, Taylor Brown, Kelsey Scott, Angelina Overholt and Kacie Rook.

The second-place Golden Knights saw Lehman’s silver podium finish followed by Natalie Hunter (seventh) and Ryann Brinkman (11th).

Mount Gilead followed with an eighth-place finish by Haley Pfeifer. Kimberley Staley was 10th and Danielle Pohlkotte finished 20th.

Cardington-Lincoln was fourth, and had two runners in the top five. Loey Hallabrin finished third in 19:51.71, and Magi Hallabrin was fifth with a time of 20:11.06. Morgan White finished 18th for C-L.

East Knox was fifth, led by fourth-place finisher Taylor Severt in 19:58.95. Teammate Adrian Clutter finished ninth.
