Fredericktown 44, Cardington-Lincoln 28    

Fredericktown (6-3, 4-1) continued its undefeated streak at home last week with a big 44-28 victory over Cardington-Lincoln (1-8, 0-6) thanks to another huge game for running back Teegan Ruhl. 

Ruhl led the offensive charge with a dynamic display running the ball for the Freddies. He scored four rushing touchdowns in the game and was efficient with 13 carries for 214 yards – an average of 16.5 yards per carry. Ruhl has been a beast for the Freddies all season. He now has 1,602 yards on 216 carries with 22 touchdowns.

Fredericktown had a 14-0 lead after one quarter and scored nine points in the second quarter. Cardington-Lincoln fought back with 12 points of its own and made it a 23-12 game going into the half. After a scoreless third quarter, both teams cranked up the offense in the final frame, with Fredericktown scoring 21 points and Cardington-Lincoln scoring 16 points.

The Freddies were strong on the ground with 303 yards and a 10.1 yard-per-carry average. Mason Hoeflich had 12 carries for 53 yards, and Kaid Carpenter ran the ball five times for 36 yards.

Ben Mast completed 5 of 7 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown. Carpenter also completed one pass for 37 yards. The top receiver was Carpenter with two catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. Ruhl had two catches for 42 yards. Luke Veyon hit his only field goal attempt, of 25 yards, and was 5-for-5 on point-after kicks.

Defensively, Hoeflich led the Freddies with 14.5 tackles and 0.5 sacks. Trevor Bellman also played well with 13 tackles, one going for a loss. He also had an interception returned for a touchdown. Cameron Koelbel and Lucas Herbst each recorded a sack, and Xavier Mullins had 0.5 sacks.

The Pirates were led by Wyatt Kenney, who ran the ball 16 times for 110 yards with a touchdown. Kaiden Beach had 12 carries for 34 yards, and Ayden Plowman ran the ball five times for 30 yards. Beach was 13-for-26 passing with 223 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His top receiver was Austin Vails, who had three catches for 92 yards and a touchdown. Kalin Briggs caught four passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. Ashton Plowman had three catches for 31 yards.

Next up for the Freddies is a tough matchup against 8-1 Centerburg on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. The Pirates travel to Mount Gilead for the final game of their season on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.

Centerburg 49, Northmor 13   

Tyler Johnson of Centerburg (8-1, 5-0) found paydirt often against Northmor (5-4, 2-4) last week with six rushing touchdowns, leading the Trojans to a 49-13 victory, Centerburg's eighth straight win.

It was all Centerburg from the start, with the Trojans putting 14 points on the board in the opening frame. With 6:42 on the clock and then again with 3:48 left, Johnson ran the ball in for touchdowns of 5 and 3 yards.

Centerburg scored 21 more in the second quarter to take a 35-7 lead into halftime. With 8:34 left in the quarter, Johnson scored another touchdown on a 10-yard run. With 5:08 left, Caylan LeMaster broke free for 58 yards on a big touchdown run. With 4:47 left, Northmor finally got on the board with a touchdown pass of 43 yards from AJ Bower to Hunter Fulk. With 52 seconds left in the half, Johnson ran the ball in from 2 yards out.

Each team scored seven points in the third, and Centerburg added seven insurance points in the fourth quarter. Johnson had a 25-yard touchdown run with 8:04 on the clock, and Bower completed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Bo Bo Landin with 2:24 left in the third. The fourth quarter score was at 9:54 by Johnson for 2 yards.

Johnson, who is 16th in the state in rushing yards and third in touchdowns with 31, had 24 carries for 162 yards to go with his six scores. Caylan LeMaster had 133 yards on 13 carries and scored a touchdown.

Throwing the ball, Johnson was 10-for-17 for 162 yards and an interception. His favorite receiver was Mason Turske with four catches for 67 yards. Jesse Rings had two catches for 58 yards.

In total, Centerburg had 452 yards of offense, and Northmor had 332 yards.

For Northmor, Bower was 19-for-35 for 236 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Max Lower had 17 carries for 73 yards, and Caleb Schnuerer had five carries for 22 yards. The top receiver was Fulk with eight catches for 86 yards and a touchdown. Landin had four catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. Jaxson Wenger caught three passes for 63 yards.

On defense, Lower, Fulk and Bohdi Workman had 5.5 tackles. CJ Stoney had an interception and a tackle.

Next up for Centerburg is a home matchup with Fredericktown, and Northmor travels to Loudonville, with both games on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.

Highland 42, River Valley 21

Highland (7-2, 6-0) took on River Valley last week and continued its dominance with the sixth straight win for the Fighting Scots, riding another big running performance by Dane Nauman.

Highland had a 35-7 lead at halftime and after a scoreless third quarter, the Vikings outscored the Fighting Scots 14-7 on the way to the 42-21 final.

Nauman is the No. 2 running back in the state of Ohio, and last week he ran the ball 29 times for 341 yards and five touchdowns. He also completed a 37-yard pass. Nauman now has 2,199 yards on 254 carries and 27 touchdowns. This was his third game of more than 300 yards and his fifth of more than 200 yards. He has run for more than 300 yards in three of his last four games.

Kolton Stover was 5-for-9 passing for 50 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the ball six times for 21 yards. Stover’s top receiver was Gavin Toombs with three catches for 34 yards and a touchdown. Zach Schmidt had two catches for 43 yards, and Kort Sears had a catch for 10 yards.

Hayden Kline had seven tackles and one for a loss. Chandler Stevens had two tackles and a sack. Zachary Church picked off two passes and had five tackles.

Highland hosts Clear Fork at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21 in a conference matchup.
