Centerburg 3, KIPP Columbus 0
Centerburg (16-5, 9-3) got back into the win column last week with a sweep over KIPP Columbus on Oct. 13. It was an easy win for the Trojans, who have been one of the top teams in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference this season. They won by scores of 25-5, 25-12 and 25-2.
Olivia Joiner had nine kills, one ace and one dig. Kennedi Glenn had 10 assists in two sets played, and Clara Johnson had eight assists and an ace. Glenn also had an ace and a dig.. Autumn Kennedy had a solid match with seven kills. Amani Marshall and Gwinn Sands did well serving, with seven and six aces respectively.
Centerburg is the No. 2 team in KMAC behind Cardington-Lincoln, who is 12-0 in conference play.
Mount Vernon 3, Ontario 0
Mount Vernon (13-9, 7-7) hosted Ontario (9-13, 6-8) in a home conference match on Oct. 13 and while it was a sweep for the Yellow Jackets, the game was a back-and-forth battle each set.
Mount Vernon won by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-22 showing that this could have been anyone’s game at any time.
Peyja McCord had 15 kills, one ace and five digs in the win. Setter Tori Burdette had a huge game with 39 assists, especially impressive in only three sets. Burdette also had 10 digs. The top defensive performance was by Madi Rohler, who recorded 29 digs, to go along with a kill. Jurnie Gleason had eight digs, while Avery Lasater, Emma Dean and Ady Beaver had six digs each.
Highland 3, Marion Harding 0
The Highland Fighting Scots (19-3, 13-1) are sitting atop the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference as they have been dominant most of the season, and their skill was put on full display last week against Marion Harding in a 3-0 conference win at home.
Highland had 40 kills in the sweep and won by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-8.
Kameron Stover posted 10 kills, three aces and eight digs. Larsen Terrill had 23 assists, 17 digs, five aces and five digs in an all-around great performance on the court. Alexis Eusey had eight kills, three aces, seven digs and an assist. Brooke Schott had seven kills, three aces and five digs. Camryn Miller had 12 digs in what was a solid defensive showing.
Highland played in a sectional semifinal against Marion-Franklin on Monday night.
Northmor 3, Mount Gilead 0
Northmor (9-13, 6-6) and Mount Gilead (2-16, 0-10) went head-to-head in a conference match at Northmor on Oct. 13, and it was a lop-sided affair in the final match of the regular season with the Golden Knights taking a 3-0 win.
Northmor won 25-13, 25-8 and 25-8. Amanda Kincaid led the Northmor squad with eight kills, four aces, four blocks and a dig. Setter Lizzie Erlsten had 28 assists to go along with two digs and eight aces. Maddy Blunk had seven kills, eight digs and five aces. Abby Conant posted six kills, one ace and one block.
Delaware Christian 3, Danville 0
Danville (6-14, 2-10) hosted Delaware Christian (15-7, 10-2) on Oct. 13 in the final match of the season, and it was one-sided throughout with Danville falling in three sets for its fourth straight loss.
Delaware Christian beat the Blue Devils by scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-17.
Leading the Danville squad was Taryn Mickley with six kills, two blocks, two assists and seven blocks. Leigh Johnson played well defensively, recording 19 digs to lead all Blue Devils. Delaney Alvis had seven digs and a kill.
Licking Heights 3, Utica 2
Licking Heights (15-7, 10-4) and Utica (7-15, 4-11) went head-to-head on Oct. 13, and it was a roller coaster ride until the final set with Licking Heights walking away with a close 3-2 win.
Utica won the first match 25-19, but then Licking Heights came back and dominated set two by a score of 25-7. Utica woke up in set three and took a 25-19 win, but Licking Heights responded with a convincing 25-15 victory to send the match into a fifth and deciding set. This set was as tight as they come, with Licking Heights squeaking by with a 17-15 win.
Fredericktown 3, Bishop Ready 0
Fredericktown (16-6, 9-3) hosted Bishop Ready (4-8, 0-6) on Oct. 15 and the first set was only a three-point win, but the Freddies made quick work of Bishop Ready the rest of the way in a 3-0 win.
The Freddies won by set scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-18.
Grace Sipes had nine kills, three aces, one block and five digs. Taylor Bryant did a solid job setting the ball with 22 assists. She also posted a pair of aces and eight digs. Jillian Boutin had seven kills and six blocks. Bella Mullins recorded eight digs and Mya Bryant added seven kills. Julia Partington played well on defense with 13 digs to go along with her two aces.
Fredericktown had a home tournament match against Utica on Oct. 18 at 6 p.m.
