Mount Vernon 3, Mansfield 0
The visiting Mount Vernon Lady Yellow Jackets dominated the Mansfield Lady Tygers with a straight-set victory, 25-4, 25-17, 25-9, Sept. 20. Mount Vernon improved to 7-4 overall and 5-4 in OCC play, and Mansfield remained winless at 0-12, 0-9.
Crushing the Tygers 25-4 in the first set, the Jackets cruised all night. With 43 kills in three sets, Mount Vernon was led on the attack by Emma Dean with 11 kills on only 13 attempts (84.6%), Kaitlyn Thompson had 10 kills, Peyja McCord had nine and Jenna Riley finished with six. Katie King served four of the Jackets’ eight service aces and served at a 93.8% rate. Mount Vernon needed only 22 digs on 30 attempts, and Madi Rohler accounted for nine on 12 tries. Tori Burdette set up 31 of the team’s 33 assists, and the Jackets controlled the action and the scoreboard from start to finish.
Highland 3, Ontario 0
The third-ranked DII Highland Lady Scots, 14-1 and 8-0 in MOAC play, kept their perfect conference record intact with a sweep of Ontario on Sept. 20 by scores of 25-7, 25-18, 25-11. The Warriors fell to 5-9, 3-9. Highland jumped out big in the first set and never looked back.
Behind the serving of Camryn Miller, the Lady Scots opened the first set up 16-0 as they cruised to the 25-7 win. In the second set, Highland led 9-3, played point-for-point, then hit the gas again, grabbing a 25-18 set win, scoring big with 18 kills in the set.
The third set saw the Scots jump out quickly again, grabbing a 9-1 lead, which would grow to 18-6 before they scored the last five points in a row with four kills and an ace to secure the match. Kameron Stover had five kills, Mia Stanco had four kills, and five different servers added seven aces in the frame.
On the stat sheet, Highland’s Camryn Miller had seven aces and 11 digs, Kameron Stover attacked for 17 kills and three aces, Larsen Terrill had 26 assists and three kills, Brooke Schott was in the air for nine kills and three blocks, Mia Stanco added five kills, and Zoya Winkelfoos served three aces.
Cardington-Lincoln 3, Fredericktown 0
The Lady Pirates were perfect in several areas and remained perfect in conference play as they swept the Freddies on Tuesday at Cardington by set scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-23 in a tight battle. Cardington-Lincoln raised its record to 10-3 overall and remained spotless at 7-0 in KMAC contests. The Freddies dropped to 9-4 overall and 4-3 in KMAC play.
The Lady Pirates were led on the attack by Audrey Brininger’s 23 kills and Payton Goodman’s 14, as C-L smashed down 52 team kills. Goodman served C-L’s only ace and was one of six servers to finish with a 100% service rate, as Cardington-Lincoln had a 98.6 rate, with only one service error in 73 attempts. The Lady Pirates were perfect on dig attempts at 64-for-64, with Cadie Long successfully digging all 22 of her attempts, and Goodman going 10-for-10. Brininger had nine digs and Maddie Linkous had eight. Jadine Mills finished with all of C-L’s 47 assists.
Heath 3, Utica 0
The Utica Redskins fought two close sets but lost handily in the second set as they fell to 4-9, 3-5 in Licking Valley League play – 25-21, 25-13, 25-22 – to Heath (7-5, 5-3) on Tuesday.
Performing well, even in defeat, were Utica’s Alexa Gosnell with 12 assists and 13 digs; Emilee Ellis with five kills, two aces, eight assists and eight digs; Ellie Boggs with seven kills; Lexi Wiegand with three aces and nine digs; and Carlie Parsons with four kills and two aces.
Centerburg 3, Northmor 1
In three tight sets out of four, Centerburg (10-2, 6-1 KMAC) fought off a determined Northmor (4-9, 2-4) volleyball squad before taking them down in four sets, 26-28, 25-19, 25-12, 26-24, Tuesday.
