Lady Cougar Ashley Stumperth made history for the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s volleyball team (14-3, 1-3) in its Crossroads League match against No. 19 Taylor University (15-3, 4-0) on Saturday, Sept. 17, in Upland, Ind.
MVNU entered the match coming off a five-set victory at Spring Arbor the previous night. However, the match against the Trojans would go differently as MVNU was swept by scores of 25-18, 27-25 and 25-11.
Despite the loss, Stumperth reached a milestone for the Lady Cougars as she surpassed the 1,000 career kills mark. The senior from Canton led everyone with 15 kills in the match. Following Stumperth’s 15 kills, Erica Gasser finished with nine. Gasser also had two blocks. Reagan Nuss led MVNU defensively with 15 digs. Jaelyn Tang had 11 digs, and Molly Galaszewski ended things with nine. Abbey Niemesh led the team with three blocks. Paige Brenner had 26 assists and nine digs for MVNU.
