Cardington-Lincoln 3, East Knox 0

Cardington-Lincoln improved to 7-2 overall and remained unbeaten in KMAC play at 4-0 with a three-set sweep over East Knox on Sept. 8. The Lady Bulldogs fell to 1-4 and remained winless in conference play at 0-4. After a tight first set at 25-21, the Lady Pirates coasted through the second set 25-7 and took care of business in the third, 25-17.

Lady Pirates coach Ryan Treese said he was able to rest his seniors and get some younger kids playing time. 

“This will pay off later,” he said. “This was the best serving game of the season.” 

C-L had a 90.4% serve rate and 20 service aces, led by Jadine Mills with five and Audrey Brininger with four. Maddie Linkous and Lily Clark each served three. On the attack, Cardington was paced by Brininger’s 13 kills and Linkous’ 10. C-L also amassed 54 digs, including 13 by Cadie Long and eight each by Linkous and Brininger. Mills tapped out all 31 team assists for C-L.

 

Newark Catholic 3, Utica 0

Utica fell to 3-7 and 2-3 in Licking County Conference play with a 3-0 loss to undefeated Newark Catholic (7-0, 6-0) on Sept. 8. Down two sets (25-9, 25-18), the Indians played a tough third set before falling 26-24. Utica’s middle was tough and out-dug the Green Wave 49-42. Utica saw strong performances from Emilee Ellis with three aces, 11 assists and 11 digs; Emma Kimpel with six kills and 12 digs; Carlie Parsons with three kills and nine digs; and Riley Thompson with four kills. Ellie Boggs recorded two blocks.

Mount Vernon 3, Madison Comprehensive 0

Mount Vernon (3-3) swept Madison Comprehensive (2-6) on Sept. 8, by scores of 25-16, 25-19, 25-23. Attacking through the match, the Lady Jackets amassed 36 kills to 23 for the Rams. Mount Vernon was led by Peyja McCord with 11 kills and Kaitlyn Thompson with 10 kills. Jenna Riley served three aces, and Madi Rohler was a force in the middle with 15 digs as Mount Vernon held a 52-37 dig advantage. Tori Burdette, who added six digs, also tapped up 33 of MV’s 35 assists.

Northmor 3, Danville 0

Host Northmor cruised to a 3-0 victory Sept. 8, improving to 4-5. Danville fell to 2-4.

Northmor won in dominant fashion – 25-13, 25-10, 25-16. 

Leading the offense was Chloe Keen with 14 kills and 80 percent serving. She also had a block and seven digs on defense. Setter Maggie Brewer had a solid day setting up kills with 36 assists. 

Amanda Kincaid had nine kills and was 100 percent serving. She also had a pair of blocks and three digs. Maggie Brewer had four kills, three digs and a block. Emily Zeger had six digs and Maddy Blunk had seven digs. Blunk also had four aces from the serving line.

Fredericktown 3, Mount Gilead 0

Fredericktown improved to 8-2 and 3-1 in the KMAC with a sweep over Mount Gilead on Sept. 8. Mt. Gilead dropped to 1-5 and 0-3 in the conference.

Fredericktown won 25-13, 25-21, 25-12. Leading the way was senior Grace Sipes, who had eight kills and seven digs. Julia Partington had 23 assists, four digs and six aces while serving at 88.9 percent. Bella Mullins had nine digs to lead the defense.

Colonel Crawford 3, Cardington-Lincoln 2

On Sept. 10, Cardington-Lincoln traveled to North Robinson to take on the Colonel Crawford Eagles, and while the Pirates took the match all the way to the fifth set, Cardington-Lincoln dropped to 7-3 with 3-2 loss.

Cardington-Lincoln won the first two games 25-20 and 25-21 and looked to have the match in its hands. Colonel Crawford then rallied for the 20-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-12, 15-11 victory.

The Pirates were led by Audrey Brininger with 24 kills, one block and 16 digs. Izzy Wickline had 11 kills and four blocks. Setter Jadine Mills kept the Lady Pirates moving with 52 assists, 11 digs and a block. She had five aces and served 100 percent. Lily Clark had 10 kills, three blocks and six digs.

Centerburg 2, Millersport 0

Centerburg took on Millersport in a neutral non-conference matchup on Sept. 10 and took a 2-0 victory, improving to 8-1 and sitting atop the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference standings.

The Trojans won 25-13, 25-9. 

The Lady Trojans then whipped Whiehall-Yeatling, 25-5, 25-2, to improve to 7-1 on the season.

“Overall we had a very good weekend,” said Centerburg coach Abigail Boudinot. “We had a great learning experience playing Pickerington North, a solid team. After that, we were able to fully concentrate on ourselves and work on our options.”
