UTICA – Myron L. Coblentz of Utica, Ohio and Parrish, FL passed away on Sept. 7, 2022, surrounded by his family after a courageous six-year battle with cancer.
The son of Leon and Esther Coblentz, he was born on Aug. 29, 1959, in Hartville. He was a graduate of Lake High School and the University of Akron, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in accounting. He started his career in the grocery business with Hartville Foods, Inc. and went on to be the co-founder of R&M Investments, which operated several restaurants in the North Central Ohio area, including The Ohio Restaurant, Athen’s Greek Restaurants, R&M’s Southside Diner, Spearman’s Restaurant, The Ice Cream Station and Watt’s Restaurant. R&M Investments was also responsible for countless real-estate ventures in Ohio and Florida, one of their favorite projects was a small hotel on Treasure Island, FL in the early 90s.
R&M Investments was founded by Myron and Roger McCoy. Myron and Roger were partners in life, confidantes, and best friends. Their story was one of friendship, family, love, trust and kindness. Together they built a successful business and a life they loved.
Myron was known for his incredible work ethic, but he also knew how to play hard. He enjoyed traveling the world with his family and friends, especially aboard cruise ships (with casinos). He and Roger were avid cruisers, Myron’s favorite cruise destination was the Greek Isles. Myron was known for his generosity, he made it a priority to give back to his community in various ways, most notably by hosting the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner to benefit Hospice of Knox County at R&M’s Southside Diner. This fundraiser was held annually for 20 years.
Myron’s first priority was making sure his two children, Stacy and Ryan were healthy, happy and “under control.” He was incredibly proud of their personal and professional accomplishments.
Myron’s greatest joy was found in the last few years of his life, when he became a grandpa to 2 ½ year old, Jude. “Grandpa shark” and Jude shared an undeniable bond. They both loved being in the water, enjoying sweets and golf cart rides. Myron was an incredibly proud grandpa; his phone was full of photos of Jude and most likely Jude was the topic of conversation with family, friends, and nurses.
Myron will be remembered for his kindness, positivity, and generous spirit. His community and the people around him are better because of the impact he made. He would also encourage everyone to appreciate your health and make annual screening and check-ups a priority.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Esther (Troyer). He is survived by Roger McCoy, daughter Stacy J. Coblentz (Jason Steward) of Oak Park, IL, son Ryan J. Coblentz of Canton, OH, grandson Jude J. Steward and Jude’s brother, Jalen. Also surviving is Wayne McCoy of Utica, Joan Olszeski, the mother of his children, his father, five siblings Randall (Grace) Coblentz, Wendell (Catherine) Coblentz, Curtis (Julie) Coblentz, Sandy (Michael) Jarvis and Sheldon (Chanda) Coblentz, all of the Hartville, OH area, plus numerous nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Myron will also be missed by his devoted pups, Ricky and Tony, and “grandpup,” Eazy.
