Letter to the Editor Government shouldn't control private health-care decisions

To the Editor:

No matter where we live, most of us value privacy and do not want the government to mandate our health care decisions. Most of us know that we will make the best decisions about our health by closely consulting with our families and with our doctors.

Yet, Gov. DeWine and most Republican legislators in Ohio have passed a six-week ban on abortion. [Editor's Note: A court has temporarily blocked the ban.] This ban has no exceptions for incest or rape and no exceptions for fatal fetal abnormalities. We’ve now seen the effect of this ban in the tragic story of the 10-year-old girl who had to travel from Ohio to Indiana to get an abortion after being raped. We’ve also seen that doctors now have to assess their legal risk against their ethical requirements to provide the best care to their patients.

We can put an end to these heartbreaking stories by voting the heartless legislators out of office. By coming together, we can stop this extremist health care agenda by voting for Nan Whaley for governor in November. Every girl and woman and family deserves the right to plan for their family and be ready to love their baby when they are born.
