Cardington-Lincoln 49, Crestline 0

The Cardington-Lincoln Pirates dominated Crestline on both sides of the ball Sept. 2 and improved to 1-2 this season with a 49-0 victory.

The Pirates scored 28 points in the first quarter and 21 more in the second quarter, taking care of all the scoring in the first half.

It was a big day for Kaiden Beach, who was a perfect 6-for-6 passing for 148 yards and three touchdowns. Warren Garrison was also perfect at 5-for-5 for 53 yards in the air. On the ground, Ayden Plowman carried three times for 45 yards and a score; Beach carried twice for 43 yards and a touchdown; Wyatt Denney had a touchdown run for 29 yards; and Ashton Plowman had three carries for 29 yards and a touchdown. Denton Garrison and Eli Huffman each finished with one catch for long touchdowns of 48 yards and 45 yards, respectively. Greg Donaldson had three catches for 27 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Denney put together a nice day with 12 tackles, two for loss, and a pair of sacks.

The Pirates look to get back to the .500 mark, facing Northmor on the road for a conference matchup on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.

 

Fredericktown 39, Utica 13

Fredericktown improved to 2-1 on the season with a 38-13 win over Utica on Friday in a game in which Teegan Ruhl had a pair of touchdowns to lead a solid rushing attack.

Ruhl ran the ball 13 times for 139 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Mason Hoeflich had four carries for 17 yards and a touchdown.

For Utica, Hayden Piper had 92 yards passing with a touchdown and an interception. Piper also carried the ball eight times for 72 yards. Defensively, he had 6.5 tackles. Logen Fisher had three catches for 75 yards and a touchdown. Justin Gifford carried 10 times for 68 yards and a touchdown. Tyler Collar rushed 14 times for 92 yards.

Next up for Utica is Licking Heights on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. at home. Fredericktown faces Danville on the road at 7 p.m. on Sept. 9.

Northmor 27, Bucyrus 7

The Northmor Golden Knights took on Bucyrus on Friday night and while it was a scoreless game for the entire first half, the Golden Knights offense woke up in the third and fourth quarters to take a 27-7 win.

Bucyrus got the scoring going in the third quarter with 7:54 remaining when Randy Banks recovered a fumble and returned it for 61 yards to go up 7-0. However, this defensive score would be all the Redmen could muster.

With 6:27 left in the third quarter, Northmor's AJ Bower connected with Jaxson Wenger for a 32-yard touchdown pass, and following the extra point by Caleb Schnuerer, it was a 7-7 game. With 4:36 on the clock in the quarter, Northmor took a 13-6 lead when Bower ran the ball in from 11 yards out.

In the fourth quarter, Northmor went up 20-7 when Max Lower ran 11 yards for a score. With 5:18 left in the game, Lower capped off the scoring with a 39-yard touchdown tun. With the extra point it, was a 27-7 game and Northmor held on for the victory.

Northmor dominated offensively with 406 yards and held Bucyrus to only 225 yards. The Knights also controlled the time of possession with 28:54 compared to 18:50. Bower was 11-for-18 passing for 207 yards and a touchdown. His top receiver was Wenger, who had a pair of catches for 78 yards. Max Lower ran the ball 31 times for 142 yards. He also caught three passes for 46 yards.

Next up for the Golden Knights is a home conference matchup against Cardington-Lincoln with a 7 p.m. kickoff on Sept. 9.

Centerburg 34, Worthington Christian 28

In a see-saw battle between Centerburg and Worthington Christian, the Trojans scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to secure the 34-28 comeback win to improve to 2-1.

Centerburg went up 7-0 on a dynamic 69-yard touchdown run by Tyler Johnson with 9:44 left in the first quarter. Johnson then struck again with 2:42 left in the quarter from four yards out to make it a 14-0 game after Dominic Vargo made both extra points.

With 11:51 on the clock in the second quarter, Johnson took it to the air with a 51-yard touchdown pass to Mason Turske. Worthington Christian scored with 6:06 left in the half and scored a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to tie the game at 21-21 going into the final frame. With 10:53 left in the game, Johnson completed a pass to Trevin Harris for 32 yards for a score to take a 28-21 lead. Worthington Christian tied the game up with 7:00 remaining on a touchdown pass by Hobie Raikes, but Centerburg’s Johnson hit Jesse Rings for a 15-yard touchdown to make it a 34-28 game and take the win.

Johnson completed 10 of 13 passes for 170 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. On the ground, Johnson led the Trojans with 14 carries for 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Caylan LeMaster ran 10 times for 51 yards. Turske was the top receiver with two catches for 58 yards and a touchdown. LeMaster had four catches for 26 yards.

Centerburg takes on East Knox for a home conference matchup on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.

Colonel Crawford 37, East Knox 7

East Knox fell to 1-2 on Friday, when it struggled to keep up with Colonel Crawford in a 37-7 loss.

The Bulldogs scored a touchdown in the first quarter on a touchdown pass by Bracen Davis to Carson Steinmetz, but it was the only points East Knox could muster. Colonel Crawford scored eight points in the first, 21 points in the second and eight points in the third quarter.

Davis went 7-for-15 passing with a touchdown and 52 yards in the air. Steinmetz had seven catches for 52 yards and a touchdown. Cole Delaughder had 18 carries for 51 yards.

East Knox travels to Centerburg on Sept. 9, with the game starting at 7 p.m.
