Knox County has received a federal grant to pay for improvements to the Knox County Airport.

According to a press release from U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), the Knox County airport is one of three Ohio facilities included in this latest round of funding from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Knox County Commissioners and Airport Authority will receive $222,153 to “construct, modify and improve” the hanger at the Knox County Airport.

A total of $5.4 million was awarded in Ohio, the release stated, including $4.8 million to the Columbus Regional Airport Authority to shift and reconfigure the taxiway at the John Glenn Columbus International Airport. Another part of the grant includes $383,816 to the Licking County Commissioners and Regional Airport Authority to construct and improve the parking lot at the Newark-Heath Airport.

“Ohio airports are vital infrastructure supporting travel and commerce in our state,” Brown said in the release. “Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, these funds will enhance safety and operations at Knox County Airport, Newark-Heath Airport, and John Glenn International and improve travel for area residents and businesses.”

The announcement stated the bipartisan Infrastructure and Investment and Jobs Act – which Brown helped write and pass – played a key factor in securing the funds.

The FAA supports public-use airports included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) through the Airport Improvement Program. The program supports projects that improve airport safety, capacity, and security and lessen environmental impact.
