A sophomore at Mount Vernon High School has been selected as a member of the Conservation Teen Advisory Council (ConTAC) for the new school year.

Izzy Quinlivan will serve on ConTAC for the 2022-23 school year as one of its 50 members from Ohio high schools.

ConTAC enables high school students from across the state to collaborate and contribute ideas to enhance the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) youth outreach programs, the agency said in a release.

“It’s inspiring for us to see a new group of intelligent young people that are passionate about nature join our ConTAC program,” ODNR Director Mary Mertz said. “We love their perspectives and look forward to their work this year with our ODNR experts.”

ConTAC members serve at least one year on the council. They can meet monthly with fellow members and natural resource mentors, with in-person meetings from March to November, and virtually from December through February.

The program kicked off on Aug. 11 with a stream quality monitoring event on the Grand River.
