MOUNT VERNON – James R. “Bob” Sheets, 82, of Sparta was called to his Heavenly home on Friday afternoon, July 22, 2022, surrounded by his family at home. He was born on June 6, 1940, in Tazwell, Virginia, to the late James Estil and Max Selma (Sizemore) Sheets.
Bob was a faithful member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Mount Vernon. He worked for several manufacturing companies over the years that include PPG for 17 years, Flxble in Delaware for 20 years and retired from AMG in Mount Vernon. Bob enjoyed traveling, gardening and volunteering at his church, and he was an avid Ohio State fan.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Betty (Whitt) Sheets, whom he married on May 20, 1961; son, Clay Sheets of Sparta; daughter, Donna (Brad) Price of Gambier; sisters, Laura Lloyd of Marengo and Janie (Ronnie) Lloyd of Marengo; brother, Tom Sheets of Utica; and several nieces and nephews, including Heather and Stephanie.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Geyer; and a brother, Bill Sheets.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the time of a funeral service celebrating the life of Bob at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the Apostolic Christian Church, 1635 Old Delaware Road, Mount Vernon, with Bishop Duane Kramer and Pastor LJ Harry officiating. Burial will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery near Sparta.
