FREDERICKTOWN – The Fredericktown Senior Citizens met on Wednesday, July 13, at the Fredericktown Municipal Building. There were 24 members and five guests present to enjoy a potluck luncheon. We had a prayer by Paul James and Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.

At 12:30 p.m. Margaret Ann Ruhl introduced our guest speakers. State Representative candidates Beth Lear and Louise Valentine. Also, Heather Swipe, who is running for the Ohio Senate seat. All candidates talked about themselves, why they are running and then answered questions. Also running is the State Central Committee Man and Woman. There were no candidates present from those races. Ruhl did not invite them as there was too many. Still, this was a reminder that there is a second primary election on Aug. 2 with absentee ballots going out now.

Also, guest speaker Mayor Jerry Day from Fredericktown gave clarity about the rumor of the splash pad. It is not the reason for the increase in water/sewer rates. The splash pad uses recycled water. Also, the tornado damage to the village cost an additional $26,000 to hire the company to clean up the large amount of debris. It was appreciated with all of the trees and tree branches down.

Meeting was started by Secretary Margaret Ann Ruhl, who skipped the read the minutes of the last meeting due to the lateness of the meeting, as well as Treasurer Phyllis Shira, who said there was no change in the Treasurer’s report.

Old Business – Sue James reminded us of the upcoming trips. On July 21, the bus is heading to Canton Football Hall of Fame with Hartville shopping. We need more people to sign up as we have a bus for 56 people and it still has lots of room. Other trips planned are: Aug. 16, the bus is going to the Ernest Warther Museum & Gardens with other stops; Oct. 5, the bus will goto Columbus Veterans Memorial and Franklin Park Conservatory; and the last trip scheduled is Nov. 4, back to La Comedia Dinner Theater in Springboro for “White Christmas.” Contact Sue James for the available seats and price to attend.

New Business – No New Business.

Birthdays to celebrate in the month of July are Linda Shira, Mary Mavis and Jim Rousseau. All sang “Happy Birthday.” No anniversaries for July and no deaths reported.

Announcements – Phyllis Shira announced the Fredericktown Education Association's recipient of the Friend of Education Award is Lela Hathaway. Also, Margaret Ann Ruhl was one of six new inductees into the Fredericktown Local School Hall of Honor. Congratulations to both.

Next meeting will be Wednesday, Aug. 10, with all to bring a covered dish or two. Guest speakers will be Kindred at Home with their new name of Center Well – Home Health. Again, meeting at the Fredericktown Municipal Building at 11:45 a.m.
