The Mount Vernon Nazarene cross country team opens a seven-event schedule Sept. 16 when the men’s and women’s teams travel to Cedarville University for the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship. Meet time is 9 p.m.
Under the coaching of Simon Taylor, in his fourth season as Cougars coach, the squad looks to improve on last year’s accomplishments, which included a men’s second-place finish at the Huntington Invite in October and an eighth-place result two weeks later at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic. The women also saw success at the Huntington Invite with a third-place finish, and they came right back with a fourth at the Jenna Strong event and a sixth-place finish at the Crossroads League Championships in November.
Taylor joined the MVNU cross country program in college and is a member of the inaugural track and field team when the program was revived in 2015. Taylor was a three-time recipient of the Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete award, and was a three-time member of the Crossroads League Academic All-Conference team.
Other scheduled meets include the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational on Sept. 30; Jenna Strong Fall Classic at Wilmington College on Oct. 14; NAIA Great Lakes Challenge at Aquinas College on Oct. 22; and the Crossroads League Championship. The NAIA National Championship follows Nov. 18.
