MOUNT VERNON – James Wyant, 83, of Mount Vernon passed away on June 28, 2022, after a short illness.
James was born on June 12, 1939, to William and Ethel Wyant in Mount Vernon. After graduating from Mount Vernon High School in 1957, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve before entering the workforce at the Continental Can Company in Mount Vernon.
James was a member and former trustee of the Ohio AMVETS Post 95 in Mount Vernon. He was also a member of the Colonial City Moose Lodge 2555 and a member and former trustee of the Kokosing Chapter of the Archaeological Society of Ohio. He enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, searching for arrowheads, playing horseshoes, long-haired chihuahuas and cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
James is preceded in death by his parents, William and Ethel Wyant; his sister, Mable Randles; his stepson Keith Parker; and other relatives. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Beulah Wyant; his daughter, Kimberly Wyant; his son, James Wyant Jr.; his stepdaughter Kimberly Wood; his stepson Kent Parker; his grandchildren James (Katie) Wyant, Julianna Wyant, Jori Wyant, Keri Solaris, Griffin (Rachel) Wood and Derek Wood; his great-grandchildren, Everett Wyant and Max Wyant; and other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, James would like donations made to the Knox County Animal Shelter in Mount Vernon.
Calling hours will be Friday, July 1, 2022, from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Dowds - Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, with a Funeral service at 12 p.m.
Burial will follow at St. Johns Cemetery with full Military Honors.
