MOUNT VERNON – Harmon Cecil Gaddis, 78, of Mount Vernon went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 20, 2022, at the Knox Community Hospital.
He was born on Nov. 10, 1943, in Fredericktown, to the late Clark and Alice (Crunkilton) Gaddis. Harmon was married to Carole Roberts for 26 years. He built the home for his family learning his block laying trade from Eldon Weller and Kokosing Construction. Harmon and Andy Weller spent several years working together on the East Coast and traveling to Florida.
Harmon worked for various companies over the years while also farming. He would also help whenever someone asked. His last farming adventure was on John Deere 9400 in Albany, Missouri for four months. His last full-time employment was with Doug Stine Masonry out of Shelby and his last job before retirement was building the Mount Vernon Firehouse on West Gambier Street. While he got his picture on the front page of the Mount Vernon News, they spelled his name wrong to his dismay.
He held offices at the local Moose Lodge #2055 and Amvets Post #95 and was a member of the VFW #4027. He was known for his cooking at the lodges as well as his giving nature to all the civic drives these lodges support.
Harmon loved to travel. He traveled from the east coast to the west coast driving a truck, seeing the sights. It was not unusual for him to stay weeks or even months if a place caught his fancy. Lucky he had an understanding wife.
Harmon is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Rita (Leonard) Gaddis; his son Brent (Bonnie) Gaddis; his grandchildren, Jessica (Derek) Nauman, Brandon Gaddis, Megan (Zechariah) Dobbin, Anna (Corey) Girolamo; two great-grandchildren, Hudson Lee Nauman, Brayden Nauman; his brothers Delmis (Terry) Gaddis, Donley (Jodi Husle) Gaddis, Randy (Lisa) Gaddis; his sister Vivian (Chuck) Hill; and his daughter-in-law Cheryl Gaddis.
In addition to his parents, Harmon was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey Gaddis.
Friends may call on Wednesday, June 22, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Homes from 5-8 p.m. A service will be held on Thursday, at the funeral home, beginning at 11 a.m., with Evangelist Troy Northrop officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
