Highland baseball players earn MOAC and Ohio top-prospect recognition

Highland High School won the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference (MOAC) season crown with an 11-3 conference mark en route to a 19-7 overall season mark.

Several of its top players were among the elite performers in MOAC play and were selected to All-Conference teams. Additionally, two of the student-athletes have been recognized by high school baseball rating organization Prep Baseball Report as being among Ohio’s top graduating prospects.

Earning MOAC honors, Rider Minnick, Blake Jodrey and Zach Pinkerton were named to the first team All-Conference squad. Brock Church made second team and Kort Sears earned honorable mention status.

Leading the way among MOAC season leaders, Pinkerton was second in MOAC batting at .491, and Minnick was fourth at .431. In slugging, Pinkerton and Minnick ranked Nos. 3 and 4 at .698 and .621, respectively.

Pinkerton was also second in hits (26), was second in RBIs (18) and had an ERA of 0.00 on the mound in conference. Minnick was third in hits (25)

Two Highland seniors were ranked statewide by Prep Baseball Report (Prepbaseballreport.com) as a pair of Highland Fighting Scots seniors made PRP’s Class of 2022 top prospects list. Jodrey was ranked as the No. 15 second-base prospect among Ohio graduating seniors. Jodrey received scouting marks that included a 7.41-second 60-yard time, 86.8 in bat exit velocity, bat speed of 67.3, fastball rate of 82 mph and a spin rate of 2244.

Also rated statewide by Prep Baseball Report was Minnick, the No. 36 shortstop for the class of 2022. Minnick, who has committed to Mount Vernon Nazarene, has an exit velocity of 84 mph, a bat speed of 71.6 and a 6-yard time of 7.43.

Pinkerton, also a senior, has been rated with an exit velocity of 84.9, a fastball at 86 mph, outfield velocity of 81 mph, and a 60-yard dash timed in 7.5 seconds.
