MVNU will send 10 student athletes to the 2022 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala., with competition set for May 25-27 at  Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium. The athletes were announced by the NAIA as national qualifiers.

Among the Cougar qualifiers is Kyler Dickey. Dickey is the reigning shot put champion in the Crossroads League as he took the crown during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. His throw of 16.92M sits as the seventh farthest throw in the NAIA in 2022.

Dickey is joined by Mount Vernon High School graduate Erich Rhodeback. The freshman will be competing in the 110M hurdles, 400M hurdles and the 4x400M relay. Rhodeback hit the “A” standard in the 110M hurdles with a time of 14.38 seconds, he had a “B” standard time in the 400M hurdles of 54.57 seconds, and he also helped the 4x400M relay team of Jaden Haldeman, Liam Near and Marcus Whaley qualify with a “B” standard time of 3:17.01. Colin Gaines, Isaac Ramseyer and Bryce Wiles will join the 4x400M relay team as the alternates in Gulf Shores.

Terril Skinner also punched a ticket to nationals with an “A” standard time of 14.54 seconds in the 110M hurdles. This marks the second year in a row that the junior has qualified for outdoor nationals.

On the women’s side, Macy Weaver will be running in the half marathon. In 2021, Weaver was an All-American in the marathon. However, due to rule changes in 2022, Weaver will be taking on the half marathon. Weaver’s time of 1:28:12.00 in the event is good enough for the NAIA “A” standard.
