FREDERICKTOWN – Daniel Lee Bird, 92, of Chesterville, formerly of Fredericktown, died Thursday May 12, 2022, at the Morrow Manor in Chesterville. Daniel was born in Chesterville on Nov. 16, 1929, where he grew up and graduated from Chesterville High School. Following graduation, Daniel joined the United States Army and was proud to serve his country in the Korean War. After being discharged, Daniel returned to Chesterville where he met and married Patricia Kearns in February of 1954, and she preceded him in death in 2019. Daniel and Pat had two children Susan and Ron and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Daniel and Pat lived in Fredericktown for most of their married life, and Daniel worked for General Motors Fischer Body Plant in Ontario and was a proud tool and die maker, retiring after 30 years. During his retirement years, he and Pat traveled the United States in their motorhome, visiting almost every state.

Daniel was an avid golfer and enjoyed his work with the Masons at Thrall Masonic Lodge in Fredericktown.

He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Fredericktown.

Daniel loved “tinkering” at his workbench and made his wife anything she needed, including pieces of furniture. Daniel was definitely the old school “man’s man” and continued to be true to his personality through out his lifetime.

Surviving are his children Susan (Michael) Eger of Dublin and Ron (Pam) Bird of Rogers, Arkansas; grandchildren Brian (Lynn) Eger, Scott Bird and Katie (Bryan) Glenn; and great grandchildren Griffin, Hudson, and Harper, and his sister Clara Landaker of Chesterville.

Graveside services with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be Saturday, May 21, at Owl Creek Cemetery in Ankenytown.
