GAMBIER – John Marvin Shrimplin, 86, of Gambier passed away on Friday morning, May 13, 2022, at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on March 12, 1936, in Mount Vernon to the late Gale and Virginia (Carpenter) Shrimplin.

John was a machinist for Chattanooga Glass and Nestle. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #760 Mount Vernon. John loved to collect hickory nuts and keeping an immaculate yard. He enjoyed playing bingo and the lottery and wintering in Florida, but most of all he appreciated the time he spent with his nieces and nephews.

John is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Jo (Harris) Shrimplin; sisters, Norma Crammer of MountVernon, Becky Smith of Mount Vernon, Victoria Bradshaw of Virginia Beach, VA, Dixie Lee Folden of Columbus and Virginia Shrimplin of Virginia Beach, VA; brothers, James and Ronald Shrimplin of Mount Vernon; numerous nieces and nephews; and very close friends and neighbor, Dr. James and Connie Edick of Gambier.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Ann Whitt, Pat Gernell and Mary Curtis; and brothers, Gale Jr. and Grover Shrimplin.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Dowds Chapel, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon with Minister Ben McKinstry officiating. Burial will follow in Bladensburg Cemetery.
