Fourteen athletes for Kenyon College men’s sports were honored with all-team selections. The North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) recognized 11 Lord lacrosse players and their head coach with all-team selections, and two members of the Lords’ golf team and their coach earned honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Lords land 11 lacrosse players on NCAC all-conference team

Following the completion of the 2022 NCAC men’s lacrosse tournament, the NCAC announced its all-conference teams last week. The Kenyon College Lords landed 11 players, the most in program history, across the three teams, including three first-team honorees. Kenyon coach Doug Misarti hauled in NCAC Coach of the Year for the third time in his career and first since 2016. The conference also named Lords’ goalie Mayo Amorello the Defensive Player of the Year.

Among the Kenyon first-team selections were Declan Curry, Joe Bolea and Amorello. Curry started in 17 games for the Lords while scoring 25 goals and assisting on seven others. Bolea, one of the best short-stick defensive midfielders in the region, scooped up 61 groundballs while causing 20 turnovers. In goal, Amorello led a Lords’ defense that ranks third in the nation for scoring defense, allowing just 7.06 goals per game.

Kenyon’s second-team honorees included Jack Giuffre, Mike Matteo, Kern Byrnes, Henry Willrich and Thomas Nelson. Giuffre scored 21 goals and racked up 29 assists, while Matteo scored 21 and assisted on four more. On defense, Byrnes caused 25 turnovers and picked up 36 groundballs. Like Byrnes, Willrich proved to be instrumental in the Lords’ stout defense, registering 38 groundballs on 18 caused turnovers. Nelson, Kenyon’s face-off specialist, won 136 of his 212 face-offs for a .642 face-off percentage.

Cameron Longway, Joe Boesel and James Buckley rounded out the Lords’ selections as honorable mentions. On attack, Longway put up 40 points in his 16 games, while Boesel scored 13 and assisted on nine others from his midfield position. Buckley picked up 17 groundballs on four caused turnovers this season.

Of the Lords mentioned, six received their first all-conference nod, four picked up honors for a second time, and Byrnes stands alone as the only three-time all-conference player.

Kenyon finished the season with a 14-4 overall record and 8-1 in conference play, setting a new program record for wins along the way.

Kenyon players, coach haul in GCAA honors

Two members of the Kenyon College golf team and its coach hauled in postseason accolades from the GCAA last week. Eric Lifson and Armand Ouellette earned individual honors, while Grant Wallace was named a finalist for the 2022 Dave Williams Award, which honors the national coach of the year in NCAA Division III men’s golf.

Lifson, a senior, and Ouellette, a first-year, were selected to the NCAA Division III PING All-Region team. They were two of 15 players picked for Region 5 honors. Lifson has played in 20 rounds this season, has a pair of top-five finishes and carries a 74.20 scoring average. Throughout his Kenyon career, he has played in 77 rounds and holds a 76.34 career scoring average. Ouellette has also played in 20 rounds this season and that covers five top-five finishes, including one win. He currently has a team-best 72.55 scoring average for the 2021-22 campaign.

In addition to his All-Region honor, Ouellette was named to the GCAA’s 2022 NCAA Division III All-Freshman Team. He was one of just seven players selected to the national team. Members of the All-Freshman Team are eligible for the Phil Mickelson Award as the most outstanding freshman in Division III men’s golf. The Mickelson Award will be presented Friday, May 13, following the final round of the NCAA Division III men’s golf championships.

Wallace, wrapping up his ninth season with the Kenyon program, was one of just five finalists for the Williams Award, presented by Golf Pride Grips. With Wallace steering the ship, Kenyon won its first-ever North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championship, and the Lords are currently competing in their first NCAA Division III championships since 1989. Four Kenyon players earned All-NCAC awards this season and Wallace was named NCAC Coach of the Year for the third time in his Kenyon career.
