Nova Guernica
Troy, Presepolis, Rome, Atlanta, London, Dresden, Kharkiv and Mariupol are all places devasted by the machinations of powerful men. It is easy for architectural visionaries to rebuild demolished structures, but they cannot rekindle hope for the homeless diaspora, those people migrating away from warfare. History often has a way of forgetting without discerning the fate of displaced people from their homeland. However, if we listen carefully to the prevailing winds of war that remember the calls from dispossessed people it will echo their plea, "Help us, we just want to go back home."
A picture has always been worth a thousand words. Artist like Goya and Picasso could only depict images of the falling and the fallen on canvas – images we can plainly see happening now. The question is, what do we discern from what our ears and eyes tell us? If we yearn for hope in this world, we must return, in kind, hope and relief to those people who are fleeing the Guernican shadows that threaten them!
