Knox County Recycling and Litter Prevention is looking for nonprofit community groups to participate in a spring cleaning event in April.
It's a chance to provide community service and raise funds at the same time, a news release said.
"This event is opened to all youth and adult organizations to help remove litter from the roadways in Knox County," the news release said. "Participating groups select the roadways they wish to clean and perform the services. Once collected, the bags of litter can be transported to the Knox County Fairgrounds on April 30 for disposal. By participating in the event, groups provide a community service of removing litter from our county roadways."
Stipends are $3 per bag for up to 24 bags, $3.50 per bag for 25-67 bags, and $4 per bag for 68-100 bags, according to the news release.
Groups may pick up bags at 117 E. High St. in Mount Vernon. For more information, contact, Matt Baugher, program manager, Knox County Recycling and Litter Prevention, 740-393-6704, email: matthewbaugher@co.know.oh.us
The cleanup is an annual event held each April, Baugher told the Mount Vernon News.
"It's kind of our first line of defense," he said. "The snow and ice melts, and we have a lot of litter to deal with."
The program also helps to increase public awareness of the litter problem, he said.
One of the requirements is that an adult over the age 18 sign a safety and liability waiver, he said.
