The municipal parking garage at 5 N. Gay St. closed to the public Friday because an engineering consultant found some problems to be remedied.

All public vehicles had to be removed from the parking garage by midnight Thursday, city spokesperson Todd Hill said.

American Structurepoint, the city’s structural engineer consultant, inspected the garage two weeks ago and identified some concerns that must be fixed, city engineer Brian Ball said. Details on the repairs will be released when they become available.

The lower level of the parking garage will be closed to all vehicles until further notice. The middle and upper levels of the facility will be open to city-owned vehicles only. City employees, along with the general public, are being directed to park on the Public Square, North Gay Street or East Chestnut Street.

The city is waiving parking limitations in those locations for the duration of the garage’s closure.
