MVNU instrumental ensembles to perform March 22

MOUNT VERNON – The Music Department at Mount Vernon Nazarene University will present a spring instrumental ensembles concert on Tuesday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Auditorium. The community is invited to attend this free event.  

The concert will feature the symphonic wind ensemble, jazz band and flute choir.  

The symphonic wind ensemble will present various concert works, including “Let Freedom Ring” by Ryan Nowlin, “Elegy for a Young American” by Ronald Lo Presti and “They Shall Run and Be Free” by Brant Karrick. Tavaris Taylor, director of Intercultural Life, will be featured as guest soloist on “The Nine” by Randall Standridge.  

The jazz band will perform standards made famous by the Big Band leaders from the ’40s to the ’70s. The flute choir will also offer several selections during the evening’s performance.  

Ensemble directors are Dr. John Packard, Dr. Isaac Winland and Jennifer Packard.
