MOUNT VERNON – Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s music department will present "Anne of Green Gables – the Musical," on April 7-9.

This adaptation of L. M. Montgomery’s classic takes the audience on a journey from Anne’s first introduction to Green Gables and the Cuthberts all the way through her first year in Avonlea. Surrounded by a cast of nosy neighbors, precocious schoolchildren and two teachers who couldn’t be more different, the story combines being heart-warming, hilarious and bittersweet all at once.

The show is being directed by Prof. Elizabeth Barrett, Zachary Sherman and assistant director Laura Beth Hurst.

“At its heart, this is a story of belonging, family and wholesomeness. It points us back to the people we love and reminds us to cherish them. It is also a reminder that when someone new comes into our lives, something wonderful may be about to happen,” said Sherman. “Our production seeks to honor the interpretations of these characters that have come before, while still providing something new.”

The cast for the performance includes:

Anne – Bailey Niedermier; Marilla – Min Leinbach; Mrs. Lynde – Kenzie Potter; Mrs. Spencer – Taryn King; Mrs. Barry – Emma Harvey; Mrs. Pye – Shay Gautier; Mrs. MacPherson – Hannah Wagner; Mrs. Blewett – Sadie McFarland; Mrs. Sloane – Laura Heussler.
