MOUNT VERNON – John Donnelly, professor of art at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, has 18 abstract paintings and drawings on display at Art Access Gallery in Bexley. The exhibit runs through April 8.

Donnelly, who has been instructing art students at MVNU for over 30 years, is one of a trio of artists included in the “It’s All Abstract” exhibit. In addition to Donnelly, pieces are included by Alan Crockett and Sharon Dougherty.

The exhibition was curated by Barb Underferth, owner and gallerist.

“To be included alongside Alan Crockett (OSU emeritus faculty) and Sharon Dougherty is a great honor. We are each committed to the beauty of abstract art, where color and mark-making without a predetermined image are akin to musical notes without lyrics evoking feelings of joy, energy, quietness, dance and the sublime,” said Donnelly.

Donnelly has exhibited his work in numerous galleries, including Columbus Museum of Art. He has received numerous awards, including the Ohio Arts Council Artist Fellowship, scholarships to Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, the Vermont Studio Center, and a residency to the Faroe Islands. Donnelly holds a BFA from Tyler School of Art and an MFA from Indianan University.

Art Access Gallery, at 540 S. Drexel Ave., Columbus, is open Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
