The National Weather Service has issued three alerts for the Knox County/Mount Vernon area from Feb. 16-18.
Wind Advisory – in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Risk: South winds 15-25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
Precautions: Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.
Flood Watch – in effect today through Thursday night.
Risk: Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues to be possible. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and rivers may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
Precautions: You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
Hazardous Weather Outlook – in effect for Thursday and Friday
A wintry mix of precipitation is expected to roll through the area and will become all snow by midnight Thursday night. Light accumulations of snow may cause minor travel issues during the Friday morning commute.
