Daniels has career game as Freddies top Warriors, 53-27
Gabby Daniels scored career-high 29 points, and Fredericktown broke the game open in the third quarter to beat Ontario by 26 points on MLK Day, 53-27.
Fredericktown, who improved to 10-6 on the season (5-4 in KMAC play), rebounded from a 6-point loss to Northmor last weekend with a thorough throttling of the Warriors (3-12 and 1-7 in Mid-Ohio play).
Daniels started her scoreboard assault from the get-go, as she sank three 2-pointers and went 4-for-4 at the line in a 10-point first quarter to help give the Freddies a 13-5 lead after one.
Daniels added two more field goals and a 3-pointer in a seven-point second. At the half, she had scored 17 of the Freddies’ 23 points as Fredericktown owned a 23-13 lead at the mid-point.
Daniels scored six more in the third and received scoring help from three teammates – including seven from Audrey Bouton and five from Grace Sipes – in a 20-4 onslaught to run the Freddies’ lead to 43-17 after three quarters.
In the fourth, Fredericktown took care of business with a 10-10 final frame to maintain its 26-point advantage. Again, Daniels led the offense, with a field goal and four free throws, for six points.
Daniels’ 29 points came on nine-of-16 from the field, one-for-one from 3-point range and eight-for-10 at the foul line. No one else in the game on either team was in double figures. Audrey Bouton hit for nine for the Freddies and Grace Sipes scored seven. Taylor Counts led Ontario with nine points, six of which were scored in the fourth quarter.
Freddies girls pull away in fourth to top Lady Bulldogs 53-46
Fredericktown pulled off a boys team-girls team sweep and got two wins in three days, as the Lady Freddies joined the boys team in a double-defeat of East Knox on Wednesday, with the girls winning their game, 53-46. The boys also beat EK Wednesday, 51-44.
The Freddies took a slim 11-10 lead at the end of the first on balanced scoring from four girls. Laura Keith sank three field goals for East Knox in the first. The Freddies extended the lead by a point in the second at 9-8 to make the score 20-18 at halftime. Jill Bouton scored five in the second, and Audrey Bouton led the Freddies with six total points in the first half. Keith has six first-half points for EK.
Both teams found the nets in the third, with EK cutting the lead to one with a 19-18 advantage to put the score at 38-37 in favor of the Freddies. Keith was on fire for the Lady Bulldogs, connecting on three threes and two deuces for a 13-point quarter. Audrey Bouton kept the Freddies clicking with six points, and Grace Sipes scored five in the third.
The Freddies pulled away in the fourth with a 15-9 run. Gabby Daniels hit two clutch baskets and Cally Carpenter executed on four late free throws for Fredericktown. Alexandria Magers scored five fourth-quarter points for East Knox.
The Freddies were led by Audrey Bouton with 14 points, Carpenter with 12 and Daniels with 10. East Knox had two players in double figures – Keith with 19 and Magers with 12.
The Freddies improved to 11-6 and 6-4 in KMAC, while the Lady Bulldogs dropped to 8-8 and 5-6.
