Knox County Recorder Tanner Salyers is helping to raise money for a nonprofit group, Team Rubicon, which combines the skills of military veterans and first responders during natural disasters.
"I wanted to let you know that my office has established a fund with Team Rubicon for Knox County residents to donate to the relief effort after the storms that hit Kentucky and the Midwest," Salyers said on the Team Rubicon website. "I've set a $2,500 fundraising goal from our county. Just trying to get the word out. Any attention you could bring to the fund would be appreciated."
The Recorder's Office manages records related to real estate transactions, its website said.
"In Ohio, it is the county recorder who has the important and indispensable task of keeping the vital records pertaining to ownership in real estate (land) and to all encumbrances or liens upon it," the website said. "Without the work of the county recorder in recording, safekeeping and organizing all documents in a competent and logical manner, it would be nearly impossible to purchase land and be assured of a clear title or to lend money with land as security."
Team Rubicon, founded in 2010, organizes volunteers to provide help to disaster victims, its website said.
"When disaster strikes, Team Rubicon identifies the communities with the most prominent and eminent needs by using the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) and census tract information," the group said. "Using these tools, Team Rubicon strives to primary serve the communities that rank high in factors such as lack of access to transportation, housing challenges, and poverty rates."
Services provided by the group include clearing fallen trees and roof repairs.
Team Rubicon currently has 150,000 volunteers, its website said.
