Pirates unbeaten streak continues with 56-28 win over Freddies

Cardington-Lincoln won its 61st consecutive KMAC contest and 46th consecutive regular-season game by trouncing Fredericktown 56-28 last week. 

Cardington-Lincoln moved to 8-0 and 5-0 in KMAC as it took a 15-point first quarter lead and coasted to victory. The Lady Pirates played methodically and took care of the ball, committing only nine turnovers to 26 by the Freddies.

Beth Hardwick started the onslaught with nine first-quarter points, joined by Kambry Edwards, who got her nine by draining three long threes.

Four Lady Pirates divvied up 10 points in the second to take a 37-14 halftime lead, and five Cardington girls added two points each in the third. They also got scoring from four girls in the fourth as they coasted to the 28-point win.

Cardington-Lincoln got scoring from seven girls in the game, led by Hardwick with 13, Edwards with 11, Mac Linkous with eight and Dana Bertke with eight. Fredericktown was led by Cally Carpenter’s eight points.

 

Golden Knights rout Lady Trojans 63-24

Northmor’s girls basketball team (6-3, 4-2 KMAC) dropped Centerburg to 1-7 and 0-5 in KMAC play with a 63-24 demolition.

Paige Caudill started the rout early by sinking three threes in the first quarter for Northmor, as the Golden Knights took a 24-7 lead. Lexi Wenger added seven and Regan Swihart added five for Northmor. Kayla Larimore put in five for Centerburg.

In the second, the Golden Knights saw scoring from five girls to take a 36-14 halftime lead. The score fest continued in the third as Wenger scored seven and Brooklyn Dennison hit for six. Chloe Goulter scored five for the Lady Trojans. The fourth was slow-paced, as Alyssa Harris hit a long-range three for all of Centerburg’s points and Northmor spread its seven around.

Leading scorers for Northmor were Wenger with 15, Paige Caudill with 12 and Dennison with 11. Centerburg was led by Larimore with 10 and Goulter with nine.

Lady Blue Devils pull away from Indians in the fourth, 59-52

Danville trailed entering the fourth quarter but went on a roll to defeat Mount Gilead, 59-52. Danville (5-3, 3-2 KMAC) was tied with Mount Gilead (3-4, 1-4 KMAC) after the first at 15-15 and at halftime, 25-25, but trailed 40-35 entering the fourth.

The Indians were led by six points apiece from Madilyn Elson and Greer Simpson in the first and saw even distribution from four girls in the second. Ella Proper scored seven of the Blue Devils’ 10 second-quarter points. Mount Gilead controlled play in the third and took a five-point lead. Elson scored seven and Simpson had five for the Indians.

Danville came out smoking in the fourth. Proper scored nine, Brooklyn Hess had six and Alenah Boeshart five.

Proper was game-high scorer with 22, and Hess scored 12 for Danville.

Mount Gilead was led by Elson’s 19 and Simpson’s 17.
