Mount Gilead rebounds from scoreless first to down Centerburg, 35- 21

Mount Gilead (3-2, 1-2 KMAC) was held scoreless in the first quarter but won its first KMAC game of the season, beating Centerburg (1-5, 0-3 KMAC), 35-21. It was not as much of a scoring hardship as it may have appeared, as Centerburg only put up two points on two free throws by Chloe Goulter to lead 2-0 after the first.

Madilyn Elson hit four of the Indians’ eight points in the second, and the halftime score was a very low 8-4 in favor of the Indians. Goulter hit a field goal for the Lady Trojans’ deuce.

The Indians were in fire in the third quarter, putting 21 points through the twine. Faith White hit for six, and Ava Baker scored five as six girls scored in the frame. This quarter put the game out of reach, as the Trojans scored only four points and trailed 29-8 heading into the fourth.

Centerburg made a run and found the basket in the fourth, tallying 13 points to six for Mount Gilead, but it wasn’t nearly enough. Clara Johnson scored six points in the quarter to lead Centerburg, and three Mount Gilead players scored two points each.

For the game, Mount Gilead was led by Baker with nine points and White with eight. Centerburg was paced by Goulter with seven and Johnson with six.
