MOUNT VERNON – The Mount Vernon Community Band will perform a holiday concert of traditional and contemporary tunes on Sunday, Dec. 12.
This varied program of carols, classics and popular renditions will be held at 7 p.m. at the Waterford United Methodist Church, 20595 Waterford Road, Fredericktown. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.
“There are a variety of styles, a lot of really popular tunes that everyone is going to know and enjoy,” said band conductor Adam Garlinger. “It will appeal to just about every age bracket. People who are big fans of classic carols will find something to enjoy, as will people who like more contemporary holiday music.”
Three themes from "The Nutcracker," a medley of songs from Leroy Anderson and tunes from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” are a sampling of the pieces that will be performed by the 30-piece band.
Also performing will be The Chapeaux, an all-male vocal quartet composed of tenors Brian Nabors and Ted Starcher, baritone Jim Stoner and bass Scott Johnson. Their program will consist of a variety of styles of music in four-part harmony.
To reach the Waterford United Methodist Church from State Route 13, take Waterford Road northwest for 5.5 miles. The church is on the left, just past the Waterford Church of Christ.
Audience members are encouraged to practice social distancing and to take other precautions to protect against COVID-19.
The Mount Vernon Community Band welcomes new members. It is open to any woodwind, brass, or percussion player with at least three years of experience. The band will begin its spring season Feb. 7. It practices Mondays at 7 p.m. at the Waterford UMC.
