DANVILLE – Robert L. Vess, 87, passed away at home on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021.

He was born to the late Dewey and Nina (Yockey) Vess on Nov. 8, 1934. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Raymond and Leonard Vess, a sister, Hellen Ratliff, an infant daughter, Dianna, granddaughter, Jennifer Norris, and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Norris.

Robert was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Family was his world. He drove truck for 48 years as an independent steel hauler without any accidents, and serviced his SM fleet of trucks.

Robert is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Violet M. (Smail) Vess, whom he married Dec. 5, 1952. Also surviving are his children, Debra (Jim) Byers of Danville, Mike Vess of Danville, Nancy (Harold) Kunkel of Mount Vernon, Don (Laurie) Vess of Danville, D. Lynne (Steve) Walkerow of Wooster, Jim Vess of Wetumka, AL, Paul (Dyanna) Vess of Danville, and Sarah Vess of the home; his older brother, Clarence Vess of Hayesville; younger sister, Pat (Frank) Graves of Howard; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Calling hours for family and friends will take place from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. A small graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday morning, Nov. 29, in Workman Cemetery, with Pastor Stan Ratliff officiating.
