Wayne Grange met on Friday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. for its annual Corn Show. There were 16 members and guests present, including two children.

Guest speaker was Sarah Auchard, president of the Fredericktown Community Development Foundation and co-volunteer of the new magazine, 43019.

Auchard spoke about the foundation, which works with the village and county on many projects and helps support businesses in the 43019 zip code.

The new magazine was started since the local newspaper, The Citizen, disbanded and the Mount Vernon newspaper went from six days a week to two. The magazine comes out quarterly. Events can be added to the calendar on its website and/or the magazine. This group of businesses and individuals meets on the first Thursday of every month at the Fredericktown offices on Columbus Road at 7:45 a.m. except in January, April, July and October, when it will meet at 7 p.m. All are welcome to come and join if you want to be part of this organization.

The grange was recognized with a national award for Grange in Action, Heather Miller placed fourth at Ohio State Grange for her scenery picture, Diana Smith received a certificate for her Lecturer's Program from Ohio State Grange Diana Norquist, Bev Edwards received a certificate for her Family Activities, and Wayne Grange received third place in the Knox County Grange Challenge. Due to some confusion between the State Grange Office and our local Grange on the memberships, membership awards will be given out at another meeting.

John Beutel announced that he was appointed to the Board of the Shriners Hospital in Erie, Pa.

The Grange will pay for the third grader dictionaries from the proceeds of the Farmer's Market.

Thank you cards were read from County Deputy Cindy Campbell, Fredericktown United Methodist Church in memory of Skip Edwards, and Knox County Pomona Grange for pop sales.

Laura Sizemore was the judge for the baking contest this year. Winners were: Cookies – 1. Elaine Hillier, 2. Will and Dee Smith; one crust pie – Will Smith, oatmeal pie; Two crust pie – Belinda Litt, cherry pie; cake of any kind – Belinda Litt, angel food cake; brownies – Margaret Ann Ruhl.

Next meeting will be Dec. 17 at 7 p.m., with the officers' meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. Reminder that we are to serve the Knox County Township Association dinner on Dec. 7.

The meeting ended with a raffle of different items. Elaine Hillier was the winner of the comforter made by the Wayne Grange Auxiliary.
