MOUNT VERNON – The Music Department at Mount Vernon Nazarene University will perform its annual Homecoming Concert on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. in the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will include a variety of repertoires, featuring the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Flute Choir, Goliards Chamber Choir, Treble Singers Women’s Choir, Jazz Band and Collegians Chorale. The ensembles will combine for the finale, “103 (Bless the Lord)” by Michael Neale.
The special alumnus performer will be jazz saxophonist/clarinetist/vocalist Dan Jackson. He graduated with the MVNC/U Pioneer Class in 1970 and continued his education at Trevecca Nazarene University, Marshall University and University of Kentucky. Joining Jackson will be pianist Christa Brady, bassist Jim Frady (’78), and drummer Cedric Hart (’20).
Jackson studied clarinet, choral conducting, broadcasting and interpersonal communication. In addition to many years in church music and pastoral ministry, he also worked as a commercial bandleader, instrumentalist and singer throughout the Midwest, North Africa and Europe. Living in Lexington, Ky., with his wife, Nicci, he stays active in the regional music scene, leading the Sensations Band, and works as a solo entertainer.
