Lewis Clark Insurance boasts 55 years of growth in Central Ohio

Lewis Clark Insurance, a family-owned, independent insurance agency in its third generation, has been serving the Central Ohio community for 55 years and is still going strong.

Cyndi Lane said the Newark-based agency prides itself in going above and beyond for its customers, knowing its clients by name and treating them like their extended family. 

“We have been voted Licking County’s Best Insurance Agency from the Readers’ Choice Awards, chosen by our community, for two consecutive years,” she said. “We are hoping to win it again this year.”

Lane said the company's origins date back to a little grocery store in 1966, when her father Lewis “Butters” Clark started selling insurance from the back of the store.

“Whether it was pumping gas, washing his client’s car windows or selling groceries, he had a heart for people,” she said.

Clark was successful enough to move operations out of the grocery store and open up shop in Newark in the spring of 1972.

Lane said she joined the company in 1977 as a part-time receptionist and proceeded to learn from her father, igniting her own passion to serve the community.

She partnered with Lewis Clark Insurance and proceeded to own a portion of the agency in 1997 and bought the remainder of the company when her parents retired.

“The agency moved to its current location (1474 N. 21st St.) in 2010,” she said. “It’s just a short drive to Newark. I urge everyone to come check us out. Josh Wetzel, Clark’s grandson, is being groomed to be a third generation agency owner in the future.”

Lane said her personal beliefs and faith in Jesus have guided her through her many successes in life, with her husband, Michael, serving as her greatest supporter.  

“Success should never be measured by the money in the bank or the amount of toys one has,” she said. “Success to me is looking at my life, knowing I’ve always done my absolute best in being there for my family, my friends and my clients. Success is carrying out the incredible legacy that my father allowed me to be a part of.”

Lane said being a businesswoman has presented its own set of challenges, but she has remained steadfast in her perseverance, a trait that has served her well in an ever-changing landscape.  

“I’ve learned to embrace the differences that I can bring to the male-dominated world of insurance,” she said. “The speed of business and the constant changes in technology are always evolving and you have to be committed to adapt to change.”

Lane added that customer’s testimonials on a Google review were evidence of the company abiding to its mission statement.  

The agency strives to be transparent and responsive to their client’s needs offering auto, home, life, farm, small business and church insurance.
