MOUNT VERNON – To encourage visits to nine area parks, the Knox County Park District is holding an outdoor activity, Pumpkins in the Park, throughout October.

Pumpkins in the Park is a virtual recreational activity that will take participants on a journey through the nine parks to discover a pumpkin. Each pumpkin will feature a QR code to scan with a smartphone, which will reveal an “alphabetical letter," according to a press release.

Participants must obtain all letters in the parks and place them together to unscramble the mystery word. Once the word is revealed, entries must be dropped off to Almost Famous Sweet and Soda Shop at 46 Public Square in Mount Vernon. A treat courtesy of the shop will be distributed.

"Have you visited the many parks in Knox County? The months of fall are the best time to explore the beauty of the changing season," the release said. "The Knox County Park District encourages you to take time to visit nine of their parks and participate in the Pumpkins in the Park activity."

The Knox County Park District is partnering with local businesses to create a recreational activity while encouraging residents to shop local and support the community, the release stated.

For more information and details for the activity, including the entry form and Google map, visit knoxcountyparks.org and navigate to the “Activities” link. (The Pumpkins in the Park link: knoxcountyparks.org/8787-2/.) This program will be active throughout October.
