MOUNT VERNON – The City of Mount Vernon will begin citywide leaf pickup on Monday, Nov. 1. We will have three machines operating this season. The machines will be picking up all of the main streets first, then proceed to the side streets and outlying areas.  

We emphasize that leaves should be raked to the curb, not out into the street. Raking leaves into the street results in clogging up storm sewers.

Residents may also utilize the Knox County Yard Waste and Compost Facility, 7425 Thayer Road, Mount Vernon, to drop off loose leaves. They are open seven days a week. Remember, the drop off area is for loose leaves only. All bags or other containers must be removed from the area after they are emptied.
