The Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol” will be performed at the Woodward Opera House Dec. 2-5.
“It feels a bit like Christmas in October,” assistant director Charlotte Watson said. “Our new made-for-Knox-County script is complete and ready to go.
“We have our cast in place and the set mostly pre-built. The crew (Scott Elliott, Amber Keener, Bryan Bartsch and I) has been hard at work already. We are ready for our October rehearsals to begin,” Watson said.
The Community Family Players and The Winter Sanctuary are producing the play. Tickets are not yet on sale.
“We met a few Sundays ago, and the cast did an amazing first read-through of the play. It was great,” Watson said.
Elliott is the pastor of First Congregational Church and the play’s director and playwright. Keener is the costumer, Bartsch is the set designer and Sarah Hammond is the stage manager.
The show will feature a cast of well-known local talent, including Cate Blair-Wilhelm as Ebenezer Scrooge, Jim Stoner as Charles Dickens, Thor Collard as Bob Cratchit, Kelly Yerxa Lauth as Mrs. Cratchit, Luna Moreland as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Susan Kahrl as the Ghost of Christmas Present and Courtney DeCosky as Marley’s Ghost.
The show also introduces new and upcoming actors in principal roles, including Rona Lauth as Tiny Tim, Bill Williamson as The Ghost of Christmases Yet to Come, Chloe Baker as Winifred and Sabina Hawks as Young Scrooge.
There will also be carol singing by the 2019 production’s carolers, David Dunnavant, Terry Dunnavant, Shelley Grubb and Art Schad.
Rounding out the cast are the supporting acting talents of Ellie Salvucci, Patrick Frazer, Carys Stoneburner, Jo-Ann Odonkor, Philomena Odonkor, Maura Lauth, Will Stemen, Amber Keener, Liz Lutwick, Jenny Bartsch, Hailey Baker, Finn DeCosky-Nippert and Harry DeCosky-Nippert.
