'Jackets girls tennis team wins two medals

Mount Vernon girls came away with two medals in last week’s Ohio Cardinal Conference Tennis Championships, on Saturday, Oct. 2, at Mount Vernon Nazarene Tennis Courts and Memorial Tennis Courts.

In first singles, Mount Vernon’s Lucy Ogle won her first-round match over Madison’s L. Poter, 6-2, 6-0, before losing to Lexington’s Gracie Pfeifer at love-love.

In second singles, the 'Jackets’ Emma Annett beat Madison’s Kyleigh Reither, 6-2,6-1, before losing 6-0, 6-0 to Wooster’s Sophia Mathur and finishing in third place.

In third singles, Anna Dinnen steamrolled through her first two rounds, defeating Senior’s Patricia Chatman-Manns 6-0, 6-0 and Lexington’s Ashley Costik 6-0, 6-0. In the championship round, Dinnen was bested by overall winner Minnie Posefsky, at love-love.

In the standings, Mount Vernon finished in fourth place among seven teams, with Wooster taking the championship.

Centerburg Lady Trojans go undefeated in golf

The Centerburg Lady Trojans golf team defeated Northmor on Sept. 29 to sweep the KMAC conference with an 8-0 record. With a 195-210 victory, Centerburg finished the conference schedule undefeated. The Lady Trojans were led by co-medalists Avery Glenn and Somi Bright, with each shooting a 46. Glenn also qualified for this week’s district tournament as an individual.

Centerburg team scores: Avery Glenn 46, Somi Bright 46, Amaiah Gammell 51, Ella Paul 52, Olivia Griffith 54 and Lauren Beard 65. Medalist for Northmor was Katelyn Miley, shooting a 51.
